West side story

This painting was born right after I experienced the West Side Story musical at the Teatro Comunale di Bolzano, featuring the incredible Australian opera singer Alexandra Flood, directed by Rudolf Frey and Stephen Lloyd. I was only 18 at the time, and completely blown away—the scenography was spectacular: neon lights flashing, English and German blending on stage, opera singing colliding with contemporary music. It felt like a whole new universe opening up in front of me.

West Side Story is my homage to that unforgettable performance, a canvas filled with the same energy and color that had me buzzing in my seat. Painted in acrylic with the brightest tones I could get my hands on, it captures that mix of theatrical drama and the feeling of being lit up from the inside out.
