PHONE-BAR
PHONE-BAR
This video artwork was created over the course of five months, through lived experience inside Phone-bar—a tech shop that repairs all kinds of devices, from phones and tablets to computers. Unlike most tech shops, which often feel sterile or impersonal, Phone-bar is a bright, social space, thanks to its owner.
This project was also a way for me to collaborate with my dad. He offered insights on his job but also on the filming and framing, gave guidance and helped with translations. It became a co-creation—an artwork grounded in shared experience inside this special place.
This video is a socially engaged piece. It documents the everyday interactions that unfold in this space, paying close attention to the human connections and stories. These moments as small as they were, are sill meaningful—reminders of the warmth that can exist even in tech-centered environments like this.
Phone-Bar is also a critique of the wider tech industry:an industry that trains us to buy endlessly, to consume without thinking and to accept devices designed to break or become obsolete in just bunch of years. Phone-Bar works in the opposite direction. It’s a space that repairs what’s been discarded, but also one that protects the memories and stories embedded in these devices.
The owner speaks about phones as if they were people:“hit in the head,” “a bit dizzy,” “needs some rest”, humanising objects that, for most companies, are treated as disposable as much as they people making them in miserable conditions in the other part of the world. In this small shop, care extends beyond the devices themselves: it reaches the people who carry them in, the fragments of their lives stored inside, and the stories they freely share while waiting.
