Public Art Intervention in Fondo (IT)
The Fontane d'Artista 2020/21 project began with an open call organized by the Associazione Idee di Fondo and Max Spera, inviting artists of all ages and nationalities to submit ideas for artistic interventions using the public fountains of the town of Fondo, Italy. I submitted two ideas for the project, both of which were selected and later merged into a single, final work: Fontana n8.
Fontana n8.
The goal of intervention was to revitalize the old fountain #8, while creating a playful and exotic visual appeal — a reference to the past when the fountain was once filled with goldfish, a memory cherished by the older residents of the town. At the same time, I aimed to offer the community of Fondo a new "element of wonder," sparking curiosity and engagement.
Before proceeding with the project, I consulted an animal store to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals involved. This careful consideration was essential for creating an installation that was not only visually engaging but also respectful of the living creatures that were part of it.
The final piece not only revived a nostalgic image for the local population but also added a contemporary artistic touch, blending history, memory, and creativity in a public space.
The project was also in part a competition, where the winning works were chosen by the local inhabitants through a public voting system. I am honored that my project was selected as one of the winners (third prize). It was rewarding to see the community engage with and appreciate my installation.
